My husband, my miniature poodle, Nacho and I are all from El Paso. We have been living in the DFW area for about five years now.
I am a first time dog owner and I am loving every minute of it. I grew up with the typical Mexican mentality that dogs belong in the back yard. After getting Nacho, my whole life has changed. All of our family back in El Paso criticized us at first for having a dog indoors and went crazy when we told them that our mini poodle sleeps with us in our bed! After seeing how smart, sweet and affectionate our poodle is, everyone has changed their minds. Nacho, our poodle is allowed on the furniture when we visit our family!
What I am trying to point out is that I believe that the same mentality that my family had is shared by many in El Paso. This type of mentality does not allow for great projects such as dog parks to come true.
I really hope that a nice dog park is developed and that the dog owners maintain it. Even here in Plano, TX, home of some really rich people, dog owners don't pick up after their dogs.
I am thankful for all of your efforts and hope to visit the West side dog park on my next visit to El Paso!
