IMPORTANT UPDATE:

It has been a long and hard 3 years urging the city of El Paso to build dog parks for our pet owner community. After verifying with city officials Ann Morgan Lilly (Representative for Dist. #1) and Representative Rachel Quintana (Representative for Dist. #5), I am proud to announce that the City Of El Paso will begin construction of NOT one, but TWO full size dog parks!

The first of the projects to begin work is District #1 on El Paso's west side. The park will be located at High Ridge Park, which is also known as the Westside Recreation Center. I am waiting to receive plans for the design but according to Rep. Lilly this work is to begin in August 2010 and be completed by October.
The second dog park will be located at what is known currently as Tierra De Este #27 at Pebble Hills Blvd and Tierra Mina in east El Paso (Google Map Link). According to Rep. Quintana's office: "Representative Quintana definitely initiated the plans for this park to be a dog park from several calls and correspondences. . ."
According to Parks Department's Eddie Garcia this project will will begin in "October 2010 and be completed in December of 2010 or sooner."

This is great news to all of the responsible dog owners and animal lovers in El Paso. Especially those residents in those districts. Please take the time to call your representative's offices to thank them for this much needed improvement to El Paso. There are many that said El Paso was not a "dog friendly" city, but thanks to everyone that has helped with this campaign and never gave up. We are changing the quality of life our city rather than sitting back and complaining. I want to thank you all. . . BUT our work is not over.

I always thought that if this day ever came there would be more work to do than just simply waiting for the parks to be built. These parks are scheduled to be completed and open to the public by the end of this year and now is a good time to start informing people of the plans and educated them on what to expect at a dog park and how to ensure these parks are run by our community and not missussed.

Over the next few days or week I plan on getting together with Glenda Herrin (www.HeelingHounds.com) and I am sending an open invite to all local rescues and organizations to join in on creating some information for dog owners that plan on taking their pets to these parks once they open and how to spot problems before they arise. I also plan on keeping a good relationship with these city representatives to create some educational material and perhaps demonstrations as the completion of these parks gets closer.

Please do tell all of your friends and family about our website so we can reach as many people over the next few months. Please watch for upcoming events and support the local rescues.

Sincerely,

Charlie Moreno
