West El Paso Dog Park UPDATE : NOW OPEN!!
Written by Charlie Moreno
Saturday, 06 August 2011
Hello everyone. Sorry for the late update but it seems our new Westside Dog Park is now open to the public.
We have all been sharing this for almost a week on our Facebook page. We hope to see some photos and videos on our group wall soon.
Thank you all for your support through out the years. Because of the limited time I have I will not be able to update this site as much as I would like. For that reason I encourage everyone to join our page on Facebook.
I hope to have more free time in the near future to redo this website.
REMINDER: You can always get directions to all the dog parks in El Paso by visiting Google Maps: El Paso Dog Parks

West El Paso Dog Park UPDATE 04-08-11
Written by Charlie Moreno
Friday, 08 April 2011
The dog park in West El Paso (High Ridge) is under construction, however, I have gotten emails from people saying that the park should have been opened already. I have spoken to Rep. Lilly and Nanette Smejkal, Director of the Parks and Recreation Dept. as well as Wayne Thornton, Parks & Recreation Public Relations. The park is expected to open about August of this year, 2011. This is because the grass will be planted once the main contruction is completed, estimated around June or July. It takes about a month for the grass to come in and to stabilize.
So again, the dog park in West El Paso will open in August. HOPEFULLY....

I understand everyone's frustration. This is a project that has been in the works for several years. It's been delayed time and time again, but this is the closest we've ever gotten. The park is being built. Please be patient. Also keep in mind that there are other dog parks in El Paso.

West El Paso Dog Park GROUND BREAKING CEREMONY
Written by Charlie Moreno
Saturday, 04 December 2010
Today was the ground breaking ceremony at the Westside Community Center's new dog park. The expected date of completion is Spring 2011. During the ceremony it was said that the park will be built in "4 to 5 months" however public records showed previously that the contract stated that the contruction is to be completed in no later than 90 days. It's still unclear when the actual contruction (leveling and clearing) will begin.

Below is the video of the ceremony. Sorry for the poor audio. I covered the mic while trying to handle my two dogs.

IMPORTANT UPDATE:

It has been a long and hard 3 years urging the city of El Paso to build dog parks for our pet owner community. After verifying with city officials Ann Morgan Lilly (Representative for Dist. #1) and Representative Rachel Quintana (Representative for Dist. #5), I am proud to announce that the City Of El Paso will begin construction of NOT one, but TWO full size dog parks!

The first of the projects to begin work is District #1 on El Paso's west side. The park will be located at High Ridge Park, which is also known as the Westside Recreation Center. I am waiting to receive plans for the design but according to Rep. Lilly this work is to begin in August 2010 and be completed by October.
